New date confirmed

We understand that the situation with COVID-19 has been and unpredictable with many events either postponed or cancelled. We have been working hard and are very excited to announce that the Platinum Homes Back Paddock Off Road Challenge will still go ahead with the new date confirmed Labour Weekend 25th October 2020.
We will continue to monitor the situation and recommendations in regards to events with COVID-19 but thanks to all the team from Back Paddock Lakes with the flexibility for helping us manage this event we do have options over this weekend to change the format of how the event can be managed.

The course and venue is looking epic with all the hard work over the past months gone in from the Back Paddock Lakes team. We have transferred all registered participants to the new date and if this new date is an issue please feel to contact event organiser Bruce Richardson directly at events@trihb.kiwi.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

In the meantime stay safe and keep enjoying the training where possible and look forward to seeing you all in October and giving you all  regular updates as information comes to hand.

The event location and background
Situated on a private farm on the Takapau Plains (at the base of the Ruahine Ranges) family, friends and good times is at the core of the Back Paddock Lake Team. From humble beginnings, one day it was decided that it could be a good idea to dig up the back paddock of the family farm and try their luck at building a lake. A lake where family and friends could spend summer days enjoying each other’s company around the BBQ. Thankfully the water came and the team at Back Paddock Lakes have gone on to create a facility where kids can run wild and people from the community can enjoy an authentic lakeside experience like no other.

The Event
The majestic and forever-changing Ruahine Range acts as the perfect backdrop for these awesome lakes and our off road events. The native wetlands are constantly changing through the seasons and provide a peaceful retreat from the busy activities on the two water sports lakes. The dedicated native wetland area is approximately two hectares and includes seven islands made up of channels and open water separated by native plantings and local wildlife. This makes for the unique experience like no other and the perfect location for our swim, mountain bike and trail run courses. Water quality is regularly tested and passes all health and safety requirements for swimming.

Event Distances

Trail Walk/Run (multiple distances)

Whether you want to just walk and enjoy the morning or want to be a bit more competitive and aim for a personal best, it is all about being out there and involved. It is a 3km trail, mostly flat multi-lap course (depending on the distance you have registered for) and will follow the perimeter of the lake finishing back where you started in the event village.

Distances include-

OR 12km Trail Walk/Run– 14 Years and above

Mountain Bike (multiple distances)

The mountain bike events are flat and fast with bermed corners all on a specifically designed, unique off road course. Starting in waves, the course follows the outer perimeter of the lake (not on the run course) with multiple distances which makes this a family friendly course but also a very competitive one for those racers out there.

We will be offering 2 distances for both teams and individuals and will consist of a fresh water swim, mountain bike and a trail run at the end just to keep you honest. This is  multi-lap course so your supporters will get to cheer you on to the finish.
