Club Rules

Club Rules

Like any sport there are rules and regulations. These are not there to scare you but rather to ensure there is an even playing field for all involved.

At club level the emphasis is on giving it a go and having lots of fun.  However, as you step up into Triathlon New Zealand (Tri NZ) races which can include national champs, age-group selection races and the Tri NZ.kiwi series you will encounter an increased level of rules and regulations.  To read more about these rules check out the Tri NZ website www.triathlon.kiwi.

When taking part in Tri HB events, there are only a few rules you need to remember:

  • It is compulsory to attend the verbal race briefing 15 minutes before an event starts. This briefing will include event rules, all health and safety information, any changes that have been made to the course and any hazards that have been identified that day.
  • Always keep left when cycling and the road rules apply at all times. There is no drafting in our events.
  • You must have a working rear bike light on your bike for road cycling events. You must wear a helmet.
  • Always be considerate of other athletes when competing. We are friendly club. If someone is requiring help, stop to help and alert a marshal as quickly as possible.
  • Do not wear ipods, mp3 or similar devices with earphones during our events.
  • Always obey marshals and volunteers. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • As from December 2021 we are a Covid Vaccine Mandated Club to adhere with Sport NZ and Triathlon NZ rules. This will allow us to continue offering events. All event participants, volunteers, contractors, crew and spectators that are within our designated event areas will need to have their vaccine passes verified.
  • If you have to pull out for any reason always go back to the race finish line and tell the timekeepers before you leave. Return the timing transponder.
  • Before unracking your bike ensure your helmet is on and clipped. This must stay on until you have racked your bike after your ride.
  • When you leave transition you must run or walk your bike until you get to the sign that says 'Mount Bike Here' and mount bike when instructed by marshal.
  • When you enter transition always dismount your bike where the sign says 'Dismount Bike Here" and run or walk your bike back to where your bike was racked.
  • Always rack your bike in the same place. Do not drop it on the ground or leave it somewhere new.
  • At all times please respect and the marshals. They have given up their morning to be there for your safety.
  • Have fun. Yes, this is a rule!

We are a friendly club and it is important that everyone is safe and enjoys themselves. We are happy to answer any questions pre event and on race day, so don't be shy to ask.

Of course the most important rule is:

At all times - have fun!
