HB Primary & Intermediate Schools Triathlon Championships Pre-event Summary

Welcome to the HB Primary & Intermediate Schools Triathlon at the Hawkes Bay Regional Aquatic Centre & Mitre 10 Sports Park! Schools are invited to set up their own shelter areas. Registration opens at 9 am, with the first event starting at 10:00 am. Please send one representative per school to collect all participants' transponders and bibs.

Food and drink are available from Stags Café and Jack Frost Ice-Cream truck, subject to school rules.

General Guidelines:

• Respect marshals and volunteers, as they’re here for everyone’s safety.
• Parents/spectators must stay outside the transition areas and keep clear of course markers and the finish line.

Swim Details:

• Primary event: 10:00 am (Year 5-6); Intermediate event: 11:30 am (Year 7-8).
• Rolling wave start of 5 participants. Year 5-6 swim 100m; Year 7-8 swim 200m.
• Timing starts at the mat. Swimmers must wear timing transponders on their ankles and have race numbers marked on their hands.

Cycle Details:

• After the swim, students will transition to bikes. Helmets are required, and race bibs must be visible on the front.
• Year 5-6 complete one lap, Year 7-8 complete two laps.
• Overtake on the right, and obey marshals’ directions at all times.

Run Details:

• Team transitions happen in designated areas.
• Runners follow the course arrows around the park. Year 5-6 do one lap, Year 7-8 do two laps.
• All finishers must return timing transponders. Lost transponders incur a $50 fee.

Teams:

• Two-person teams are allowed but ineligible for placings.
• Finish line crossing with transponders on is required for recording times.

Prize-giving will be around 11:30 am, with results published online afterward. Enjoy the race, and have fun!
